On Thursday, April 18 at 5:30 p.m., Sap House Meadery will welcome Senie Hunt, a self-taught singer-songwriter and percussive guitarist adopted from Sierra Leone. Presented by NH Music Collective, the performance is part of Sap House Meadery’s second season of monthly Dinner & Show Concerts, which feature world-class musicians and themed fixed-menu dinners.
“Our space is intimate with tons of character and ambiance,” noted Sap-House Co-Owner Matt Trahan. “We love working with NH Music Collective to bring incredible acts right here to the charming village of Center Ossipee.”
For Hunt, who performed at Sap House last year, he plans to perform a set that blends acoustic instruments with some of his original songs.
“The music is folk with a blend of West African and Celtic influence,” he said. “I tend to do a lot of story-telling as well in terms of what inspires me to write my songs.”
As for the Celtic influence behind his music, Hunt cited his adopted parents, whom he described as “having Celtic in them.” “We grew up listening to Celtic music, especially at Christmas time,” he said. “I get influenced by everything I hear.”
Nominated for Best Male Act of the Year at the 2021 New England Music Awards, Hunt has performed as an opening act for Richard Thompson, The Wailers, Robert Randolph, Daby Touré, and Recycled Percussion.
In looking ahead to his performance at Sap House, Hunt expressed enthusiasm not just for the location, but how the food will be inspired and based on his music.
“Last year, I sent the chef a few recommendations of foods I am familiar with from Sierra Leone,” he recounted. “He did some research and pulled together a 3-course meal with an influence of West African cuisine. He did a wonderful job of it.”
Doors open for Dinner & Show Concerts at 5:30 p.m. with a Mead & Mingle where guests can sample meads and mingle among the barrels in the production room at Sap House. Dinner is served at 6:00 p.m. in the adjoining pub. The show starts at 7:00 p.m. and generally lasts about an hour.
